Oncimmune® (USA) LLC Recognizes Lung Cancer Awareness Month; Featuring 30 Individual Lung Cancer Stories

De Soto, KS (PRWEB) November 07, 2011

Oncimmune (USA) LLC, maker of EarlyCDT®-Lung, a simple blood test that aids physicians in the early detection of lung cancer, is promoting Lung Cancer Awareness Month (LCAM) through an educational blog series. The series will feature 30 stories in 60 days from lung cancer survivors, those currently battling the disease and people who have lost loved ones to lung cancer.

Founded in 2006, Oncimmune (USA) LLC is committed to the ongoing pursuit of early cancer detection methods. Now offering the EarlyCDT-Lung test in all 50 states, Oncimmune is changing the way physicians approach lung cancer detection. EarlyCDT-Lung is a simple blood test used to identify specific autoantibodes (immuno-biomarkers), which are elevated in patients with lung cancer. Because these autoantibodies are present at the earliest stages of the disease, EarlyCDT-Lung can be used to aid in diagnosing high risk patients, potentially before they exhibit specific symptoms of lung cancer.

Observed during the month of November, LCAM is an annual educational campaign designed to raise awareness about the risk factors of lung cancer, detection methods, symptoms and available treatment options. During this annual observation, thought leaders in lung cancer research and education work together to foster conversation about this dangerous disease.

Oncimmune is doing their part to raise awareness during LCAM. The blog series was launched on Oncimmune’s educational website, http://www.HelloHaveYouHeard.com, on October 25. The 30 Stories in 60 Days series will run through mid-December. Each week the blog will feature stories of lung cancer survivors, as well as accounts from those who have lost loved ones to the disease.

One such story is of Sandra, a 66 year old lung cancer survivor. Sandra was a heavy smoker, but had stopped smoking in 2003. After suffering a continuous pain in her side, Sandra had a CT scan. The CT revealed a spot on her left lung. Her doctor recommended remaining vigilant with frequent follow-up imaging. While the spot on her lung was visible by CT, a PET scan did not reveal any signs of it being cancer.

Having lost her brother to the disease, this scare motivated Sandra to do more research. During her investigation she discovered Oncimmune’s Facebook page, and learned about EarlyCDT-Lung. Sandra decided to order an EarlyCDT-Lung collection kit and worked with her pulmonologist to have her blood drawn. The test results were positive, indicating that lung cancer might be present. After further evaluation, it turned out that Sandra had stage IA adenocarcinoma, predominantly bronchioloalveolar type.

Fortunately, her cancer had not spread to her lymph nodes and a thoracic surgeon was able to remove the tumor. In fact, just a couple weeks after Sandra’s surgery, she was back to teaching Zumba classes.

“We are honored to share these inspirational stories from some very strong individuals,” said Dan Calvo, President and CEO of Oncimmune. “Lung cancer has impacted my immediate family and I know that raising awareness about lung cancer through sharing of personal experiences is a valuable tool to fight and cope with this disease.”

In addition to the 30 Stories in 60 Days campaign, Oncimmune released an educational video series to promote LCAM. Each video provides insight and information to help the general public better understand the risks factors of lung cancer and the importance of early detection. Watch for more exciting announcements from Oncimmune as they work to educate the public about lung cancer during LCAM and throughout the year.

CancerShopUSA.com Introduces A New Breast Care Kit

CancerShopUSA.com Introduces A New Breast Care Kit

Breast Care Kit

West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) October 12, 2011

Just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness month, Cancer Shop USA, an online store featuring products specifically for cancer patients and their needs, has launched its long-awaited Breast Care Kit. The kit, priced at $ 72.00 and available at CancerShopUSA.com, includes a range of practical, comforting and inspiring items, including: a Breast Cancer Camisole, nutritional supplements, a family history form, tips sheets by both doctors and cancer survivors, natural deodorant and more. A Mastectomy Care Kit is also available at Cancer Shop USA and offers a breast cancer camisole featuring drainage pockets.

“CancerShopUSA.com now offers a Breast Care Kit just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness month,” said Dr. Melanie Bone, a board-certified gynecologic surgeon and long-term Stage lll breast cancer survivor. Dr. Bone first conceived of CancerShopUSA.com when she was undergoing treatments herself, including bilateral mastectomies, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. “If this Breast Care Kit, and all the other products we have on our site to ease the side effects of cancer treatments, were available when I was sick, it would have made the ordeal more comfortable and tolerable.”

The Breast Care Kit, ideal for patients to purchase for themselves, or for supporters to gift to their friends and family, is available at CancerShopUSA.com and includes the following products:

Breast Cancer Camisole: Designed to look and feel like your favorite camisole but with a twist, this breast cancer camisole is perfect for the first six weeks after a surgery – whether it be a lumpectomy, mastectomy, reconstruction, or other breast conserving surgery. The pouch and pockets are discreetly sewn on the inside of the camisole so only you will know what’s hidden underneath.

Certified Organics™ Immuno-Build Greens™: These greens are made with concentrated phytonutrients that target cellular integrity for optimal energy, vitality and resilience. Complete with spirulina, wheat grass, vitamins, green tea, ginseng, organic mushrooms, organic watermelon, probiotics, and more. Mix with juice or water!

Family History Form: Finally a document which makes it easy to keep track of your family’s cancer history. Avoid having to remember what cancer your relatives may have suffered from each time you visit a new doctor by filling out the Family History Form one time and keeping it with you.

Cancer Treatment Tip Sheets: Scared about cancer and need of expert help? Afraid to ask someone or tired of searching for answers online? Now there is a tip sheet filled with the most frequently asked questions just for you – created by Cancer Shop USA, Dr. Melanie Bone and survivors themselves.

Nutritional Guide: Know what to eat, drink and swallow; and what not to when going through your breast cancer treatment with CancerShopUSA.com’s nutritional tips.

CURE Magazine: A complimentary subscription to CURE Magazine, which covers the entire cancer continuum, from diagnosis to recovery.

Aqua Delight Non-metallic Tasting Water: Water tastes terrible during chemotherapy and as a result two out of three chemo patients don’t drink the amount of water necessary for optimal recovery. Aqua Delight is free of the metallic and bitter taste.

Naturally Fresh Deodorant: This aluminum-free spray mist will keep you dry (yes it really works!) and give you comfort as you know it is safe to use. It is highlight recommended by oncologists, dermatologists and allergists. 100% pure and all-natural.

Managing The Distress of Cancer and Its Treatment guided Imagery CD: A new, guided meditation CD (74 minutes in length) created by psychologist and anxiety specialist, Carolyn Daitch, PhD, to support chemo patients.

Comfort Gems: Gems to provide comfort to patients going through difficult times. These “rocks” are ideal for promoting different energies and feelings.

CancerShopUSA.com currently offers more than 300 patient-requested and doctor-approved items, categorizes products by need and symptom, including: nutrition/supplements, books and cards, clothing, hair loss, mouth care, nausea relief, scar reduction, sleep and more. Each product featured at CancerShopUSA.com has been reviewed and endorsed by a physician to make sure it is safe and practical. Additionally, a number of items have been inspired and developed by cancer patients and survivors.

A portion of the sales on CancerShopUSA.com are donated to the Cancer Sensibility Foundation, a non-profit organization also founded by Dr. Bone with the mission to encourage a sensible approach to cancer; to promote a new perception of the disease as treatable and often curable; and to educate the public about cancer etiquette and provide support to cancer patients, families and friends. How soon after developing cervical cancer will symptoms occur?

Question by Jenny: How soon after developing cervical cancer will symptoms occur?
Could you have cervical cancer for months without having any severe symptoms?

Best answer:

Answer by J B
You do not have to have any symptoms at all. Cervical cancer is often first picked up during your PAP smear during your annual physical or a visit with your GYN. You can have this for a long time without any symptoms.

Q&A: I know this may be a bit delicate but I really need to know about cancer symptoms please?

cancer Symptoms
by Ruth Flickr

Question by Yabran Tariga: I know this may be a bit delicate but I really need to know about cancer symptoms please?
I know they may vary depending on the kind of cancer the person suffers. If you could give me a description of any kind, or various kinds of symptoms I would be most thankful with you guys. Thank you all!
Thank you to all of you who showed some sort of concern about me. I am a writer and needed to know this to apply it on one of the characters in the novel I am writing now. But of course it is never bad to know all that information. Thanks again. I wish I could choose more than one best answer.

Answer by Janet712inEngland
Hi Yabran.

Well, that’s a difficult question because “cancer” is a general term meaning “runaway growth of cells”.

If it’s brain cancer, the symptoms can be “the person has headaches and acts strangely”. If it’s in a different part of the brain, the person’s symptoms may include blindness.

If it’s in the bowel, the person may have blood in his or her stool.

If it’s in the pancreas, the person may have smelly stools.

If it’s on the skin, the person will have oddly-shaped spots usually of motley colour.

Bone cancer, blood cancer, lymph cancer — all have very different symptoms.

Perhaps this doesn’t help much! But if you could provide more details of the symptoms or of the cancer, whichever you know for sure, then perhaps Yahoo Answers could be more targeted to your situation?

Give your answer to this question below!

Executive Health Exams International and the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition Join Forces to Educate the Public About Ovarian Cancer

Executive Health Exams International and the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition Join Forces to Educate the Public About Ovarian Cancer

(PRWEB) September 11, 2004

In recognition of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Executive Health Exams International, the leader in preventive healthcare, is proud to support the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in its efforts to increase public awareness of ovarian cancer through the donation of its 115 square foot display window at 10 Rockefeller Plaza for the month of September. It is estimated that in 2004 there will be 25,530 new cases and 16,090 deaths from ovarian cancer.*

“When people think of female-specific cancer, the first thought is always of breast cancer. But ovarian cancer is just as important to be aware of and is often much more deadly because symptoms are often so vague in the early stages of the disease,” said Deborah McKeever, president of Executive Health Exams. “EHE is proud to assist the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in its effort to educate individuals about the seriousness of this disease. I hope that everyone who passes through Rockefeller Center will take the time to stop and learn from this truly poignant display.”

Delicate Cherry Blossoms are the backdrop for the disturbing phrase “Ovarian Cancer Kills” on The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition’s powerful window display. According to Maria Ciesla, president, National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, “such a stark contrast of images and words calls forth the notion that regardless of a woman’s seemingly healthy exterior, it is important to know about the subtle, yet persistent symptoms of the disease. By informing women of the necessity for early detection, we will save lives.” The window display also highlights various risk factors, symptoms, and facts about ovarian cancer as well as where individuals can find additional information about the topic.

“We are very proud to be able to promote ovarian cancer awareness and education to such a large audience,” says Ms. Ciesla. “With over 25,000 woman affected each year, it is important that the public is informed about the disease. One glance at the window can make a difference.”

Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network Sponsors Rocky Mountain Forum to Educate Patients and Families About Bladder Cancer

Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network Sponsors Rocky Mountain Forum to Educate Patients and Families About Bladder Cancer

Denver, CO (PRWEB) September 19, 2011

Bladder cancer is the fifth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, yet most people know nothing about it. To help enhance the public’s understanding of the risks and signs of bladder cancer and the importance of early detection and treatment options, the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) will hold a regional Bladder Cancer Patient Forum, “Understanding Bladder Cancer” on Saturday, September 24, 2011, in Denver. The forum is expected to educate, support, and inspire bladder cancer patients, their loved ones, and caregivers from across the Rocky Mountain region.

Dr. Dan Theodorescu, director of the University of Colorado Comprehensive Cancer Center, will lead a panel of bladder cancer specialists to provide a complete overview of the disease, treatment, and recent advances. The panel will include doctors and researchers from the University of Colorado, The Urology Center of Colorado, and St. Mary’s Regional Cancer Center.

“Many people don’t realize how prevalent bladder cancer is, and are unaware of the signs and symptoms of the disease. As a result, patients that suffer from bladder cancer often feel isolated,” said Diane Zipursky Quale, president and co-founder of BCAN. “Our goal of hosting the forum is to give people affected by bladder cancer a better understanding of this life-changing disease and the resources available to help them.”

Approximately 70,000 new cases of bladder cancer are diagnosed annually in the United States, and more than 14,000 Americans die from the disease each year. Smokers are at higher risk, and the chance of getting bladder cancer increases as people age. Because bladder cancer has a high recurrence rate, patients require lifelong surveillance, making it one of the most expensive cancers. The most frequent symptom of the disease is blood in the urine – a sign that one should see one’s doctor immediately.

The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network is the first national advocacy organization dedicated to improving public awareness of bladder cancer, advancing bladder cancer research and providing information and support to people affected by bladder cancer. Founded in May 2005, BCAN is a cooperative effort among bladder cancer survivors, their loved ones and the medical community.

To register to attend this patient forum, or for more information about bladder cancer, please visit http://www.bcan.org or call 888-901-BCAN. Preregistration is required because space is limited and lunch is provided. Registration is $ 15 per person.
